Five Reasons to Travel to Oualidia, Morocco

Morocco is a land that is known for its cultural and historical importance. This land of old-European elegance and Islamic imperial grandeur, this land is a country where the history and the present live in fascinating harmony. One of the must-visit locations in this land of endless diversity is Oualidia. It is a small fishing town located between Casablanca and El Jadida. This town is famous for its seafood, mainly its oysters. Because of its isolated location, this village remained off the map for several years. Today, it is a hot spot for tourists who wear the town all year round. However, because of its beautiful oceanfront, the best time to visit this place is in the summer. You can also visit in November and enjoy the lovely weather, but it will be too cold to swim in the ocean; if you are planning on it.

The first royal beach of Oualidia came into existence in the 1940s when a palace was built on it by King Mohamed V. He dubbed the beach to be the royal beach. Even though it was abandoned, many of the elite class members followed the lead of their king. However, it didn’t become popular until the 1950s, when they started applying French techniques and using Japanese oysters. Today, they have become quite an industry.

Reasons to Choose Oualidia 

Here are some reasons why you should choose Oualidia, Morocco, for your next vacation:

1. Market

Suppose you are lucky enough to be in Oualidia during a weekend. In that case, you have to take a trip into the town and visit their weekly market known as ‘souk.’ This is the place where Morocoons from not only Oualidia but also nearby towns come for their weekly shopping. While you are wandering through the stalls, you will find vendors selling everything you can imagine, including home goods, produce, etc. In fact, if you love seafood, there is a whole section dedicated to it. Oualidia is known for its seafood, and you shouldn’t miss this opportunity.

2. Birdwatching

If you love birdwatching, you should visit Oualidia in autumn or spring. During this time, many species of birds migrate from Europe to Africa. Some of the most common birds that can be found during this time are flamingos, storks, and egrets. 

3. Surfing

Oualidia’s main area near the city is a calm lagoon. However, if you want to do some surfing or windsurfing, you can go a little afield and experience this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

4. Boat rentals

There are a lot of agencies in Oualidia that offer boat, canoe, and kayak rentals. In the case of a small craft, you won’t need any help taking them out on their own. However, if you want a chartered board for a simple boat ride or fishing, you will have many options. The best time for boating in Oualidia is between the months of August and October.

5. Food

Oualidia is known for its seafood. You will have a wide range of options. The city is most known for its oyster farms, but you can get all types of seafood and fish. 

It is important to remember that Oualidia is not only for people who are looking for an adventure. It is the place for getting away from the hustle of your daily life and relaxing. But, if you plan just to have a chill vacation, this spot will be perfect for you.
