The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts.
The Leela Palace group was set up in 1986. Though relatively new compared to its hoary rivals like the Taj and the Oberoi groups of hotels, it was able to carve out its own niche. Despite the stiff competition, in quick time. Various factors contributed to its meteoric rise. It is present in all major business hubs in India and all the most sought after holiday destinations. Present very substantially, I might add. Its properties are large, with every modern comfort and amenity for guests. That is the routine and expected part.
The Exotic Features
The element that endears it to its guests is its adherence to and observance of quaint local traditions. Evenings at their properties (they have 9 in all) are so colourful and exotic. They have carefully curated programs celebrating the local culture. These celebrations are different at each of the properties, strictly in sync with local customs and lore of that particular place. If you are travelling to more than one destination in India and staying at their properties, you will have the opportunity to experience the wide variety of their evening programs.
Properties at Business Centers
The Leela is present (and how !) at all major business centres in India. I said, “and how!” advisedly because all these properties are huge and stand on their own vast grounds. At a Leela property, you will have plenty of greenery to feast your eyes upon and fresh air to breathe if you step out. It has properties in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gurugram and Gandhinagar. All these are large properties with all the usual amenities like multiple restaurants serving varied cuisines, well-appointed spas, swimming pools, etc. In addition, all bathrooms in all their properties are fitted with bathtubs. I make special mention of this because guests from abroad like to be reassured on this point.
Their properties at business hubs have all the convenience of business hotels, but everything else about them spells luxury. Their property at Bengaluru even looks like a palace, modelled as it is on the iconic Mysore Palace.
Properties at Holiday Destinations
They have properties in Goa, Jaipur and Udaipur. All prime holiday destinations are much sought after both by domestic and international tourists. Udaipur is a significant wedding destination, favoured by Hollywood stars also. The architecture of these properties and their location seeks to capture the magic of these locales. The amenities for guests are, as in other properties, superior. The Leela Palace Udaipur is set in the middle of a large lake in the city, imparting an unreal, ethereal air to the property.
Plans of The Group
The group has plans to extend its footprint. They plan to have a property at Agra, close to the iconic Taj Mahal. This may happen soon.
